About the Role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a seasoned international programme manager to lead and coordinate programme activities in South Sudan. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of food assistance and building resilience in a complex and challenging environment, supporting millions facing food insecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day management and implementation of the Programme, addressing operational issues and interacting with stakeholders.
  • Actively supervise the Field Office (FO) Programme team to achieve results and enable high performance through training and mentoring.
  • Contribute to the development of Programme policies and guidance, translating them into field-level practices.
  • Provide technical guidance on programme and policy matters, including assessments, activity design, and transfer modalities.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for the planning, formulation, and implementation of food assistance programmes in complex operational environments.
  • Develop field implementation plans aligned with organizational strategy and coordinate commodity calls.
  • Provide oversight and custodianship of WFP assets, monitoring project resources and ensuring compliant use with zero losses.
  • Lead the Field Office's partnership cycle management, building quality cooperating partnerships.
  • Enhance WFP’s leadership status in forums related to food security, nutrition, livelihoods, and resilience.
  • Coordinate food security and livelihood cluster partners' activities in collaboration with relevant ministries and organizations.
  • Attend and/or lead inter-cluster working group meetings and other coordination fora.
  • Assist the Head of Field Office (HOFO) as the alternate Coordinator of Area Based Coordination (ABC).
  • Design and implement food and nutrition assistance through various modalities (general distributions, supplementary feeding, in-kind, cash-based, capacity-building).
  • Deliver human-centered, contextually relevant initiatives like asset and livelihood creation, market support, school feeding, and climate adaptation.
  • Contribute to Country Office Emergency Preparedness, including early warning, risk analysis, and contingency planning.
  • Embed conflict sensitivity, social cohesion, gender-transformative, and localized approaches into the WFP Programme cycle.
  • Ensure adequate monitoring of WFP's activities and the use of monitoring data for corrective action and improved design/implementation.
  • Build and/or enforce the use of existing systems to track programme performance and accountability mechanisms.
  • Coordinate the creation of high-quality analytical reports, infographics, briefings, and fact sheets.
  • Deliver partner stock reports, distribution plans, and achievement reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate use of corporate platforms and local trackers.
  • Integrate findings from monitoring and feedback mechanisms into programme design and decision-making.
  • Support the Head of Field Office in performing duties and undertake HOFO's responsibilities during absences.
  • Perform other duties as required.
