About the Role
This role manages a high-quality portfolio of investments and active programmes to advance SRHR priorities by accelerating self-care, self-injection, and innovative health system approaches for women and girls. It provides leadership for CIFF’s self-injection portfolio, focusing on transitioning self-injection from externally supported scale-up into routine family planning services and integrating DMPA-SC self-injection into national health systems. The scope includes last-mile family planning delivery and market shaping to make innovative contraceptives affordable. This role aims to lead other health system innovations for greater SRHR product accessibility and manages investments that expand access to self-care and self-injection, strengthen national stewardship and financing, and address barriers to sustainable scale.
Responsibilities
- Support and lead broader integration of SRHR innovation in health systems with a near-term focus on self-care.
- Analyze national strategies with a focus on integrating DMPA-SC self-injection and other novel products into national health systems, routine family planning services, public-sector delivery channels, and sustainable financing mechanisms.
- Coordinate and refine CIFF’s strategy linking new product introduction, market shaping, and integrated service delivery.
- Prepare and present high-quality analysis and research to support cost-effective implementation of self-injection and innovations.
- Contribute to the production of programme strategy and the associated evidence base.
- Identify and shape innovation opportunities that improve health system delivery of contraception.
- Drive transition and integration plans with grantees and country partners for self-injection to move into national policy, training, supervision, commodity security, data systems, and routine family planning service delivery.
- Manage CIFF’s portfolio of self-care/injection investments of approximately $50-60M.
- Manage investments including direct partnerships with ministries of health, project coordination units, and consortiums.
- Set up and lead relevant partnerships to catalyze adoption of injectable contraceptives.
- Conduct regular country visits and manage performance against key sector team indicators and targets.
- Monitor and report internally on the performance of the assigned portfolio.
- Apply due diligence and risk management protocols throughout proposal and programme development and delivery.
- Conduct structured feasibility analysis on investment proposals.
- Prepare summary reports, board reports, and portfolio investment reports.
- Coordinate the development of grant agreements, forecast and process grant payments, and enable effective grant management and reporting.
- Lead or support market shaping, product introduction, commercialization, or scale-up initiatives for new products.
- Identify and embed appropriate monitoring and evaluation processes to all proposals and programmes.
- Shape and implement plans for scaling up, replicating, or leveraging additional support for successful programmes and initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for improving processes, procedures, and programme management approaches.
- Serve as the point of contact and advisor for self-care, innovation in health systems, and demand-supply matching for relevant products.
- Maintain deep knowledge of SRHR, self-care, DMPA-SC self-injection, contraceptive markets, and health-system integration.
- Contribute to thought leadership, advocacy, and learning products positioning CIFF as a leader on self-care and self-injection.
- Support negotiations and coordination with Ministries of Health & Finance.
- Represent CIFF in technical working groups and global conferences.
- Conduct rigorous assessment of potential partners across the self-care and self-injection ecosystem.
- Apply CIFF’s agreed account management disciplines and approaches in dealings with programme partners and stakeholders.
- Develop strategic partnerships that support government-led integration of self-injection, market entry, and availability of novel contraceptives.
- Act as a knowledgeable and credible resource on CIFF’s self-care and self-injection agenda.
- Be a role model to less experienced team members, demonstrating CIFF’s leadership behaviours and providing mentorship.
- Adopt a coaching approach with colleagues.
Requirements
- Master's degree in public health (MPH), Public Administration (MPA), Business Administration (MBA), or equivalent academic and/or practical experience related to health systems, SRHR, or global health.
- Direct, demonstrated implementation and leadership experience in health-system innovation and/or SRHR, preferably including self-care and self-injection.
- Experience in geographies where self-care and SRHR innovation platforms are being supported would be an advantage, including but not limited to Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
- Demonstrable understanding of the factors affecting consumer uptake of SRHR products, and of the public- and private-sector levers CIFF can deploy to influence uptake.
- Strong understanding of DMPA-SC self-injection, self-care policy and implementation evidence, and the practical requirements for integrating self-injection into national family planning.
- Knowledge of health markets in low- and middle-income countries preferred, including market development strategies, introduction readiness, pricing, procurement, regulatory pathways, generic product entry.
- Experience working within government systems and/or experience influencing the policies of government agencies, private sector organizations or donor organisations.
- Strong working knowledge of impact measurement, monitoring and evaluation.
- Effectively champions and promotes causes – credible and professional, they always present the Foundation’s programmes in a compelling way to engage the audience.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills across all aspects of their role.
- Capacity to work in a range of cultural and socio-economic contexts, adapting style and approach appropriately and in a culturally sensitive manner to maximise effectiveness.
- IT proficiency (most specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Salary/Compensations
- £63,790
Benefits
- Annual leave - 25 days per annum. Increasing by 1 day after each year of service to a maximum of 30 days.
