About the Role

Transgrid's Delivery group is seeking a Senior Planner to lead project and program scheduling for a capital delivery portfolio including substation upgrades, transmission line works, synchronous condenser installations, and data centre connections. This senior role involves expertise in scheduling techniques and systems, leading Earned Value Management, and ensuring schedule quality across the program. The position requires close collaboration with senior management, integration of complex schedules, leading EOT reviews, and mentoring junior planners.

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining high-level and detailed project schedules in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Refining schedules with internal stakeholders, negotiating deadlines, and levelling issues across business units.
  • Integrating multiple project schedules into a master program, resolving conflicts, and finding solutions.
  • Leading Earned Value Management (EVM) in collaboration with Development, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Reviewing and aligning EV assumptions in schedules and Work Breakdown Structures.
  • Performing Schedule Progress Reviews and reporting on SPI and CPI in S-Curve analysis.
  • Assisting project leadership in identifying and investigating root causes of deviation against baseline.
  • Leading the review and submission of Extensions of Time (EOT) and monthly progress claims.
  • Ensuring EOT and claims submissions are well-supported, accurate, and timely.
  • Preparing reports on project performance, critical path, and forecast completion.
  • Communicating schedule outcomes to stakeholders in appropriate formats.
  • Supporting the Project Director by working across Delivery, Commercial, Project Controls, and Project Management teams.
  • Representing the planning group in internal and external meetings.
  • Dealing constructively with competing stakeholder interests.
  • Engaging with external consultants on schedule inputs and maintaining alignment on program status.
  • Supporting the development of junior planners and fostering a continuous improvement culture.
  • Acting as the senior expert in planning techniques and systems within Transgrid.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in project planning and earned value on capital projects.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 for building and maintaining complex schedules across a program of works.
  • Ability to clearly communicate schedule positions to non-planning stakeholders.
  • Experience leading the review and submission of Extensions of Time and progress claims.
  • Proven ability to integrate multiple project schedules into a master program and manage conflicting demands.
  • Experience in project risk analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Strong command of Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
  • Prior experience in the engineering and construction phases of capital projects.
  • Experience guiding or mentoring junior planning staff.
  • Ability to work autonomously to a high standard.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities without losing focus.
