About the Role

As a member of the Machine Learning team in Recommendations, you will shape intelligent systems that power meaningful connections, safer interactions, and personalized experiences. You will be a foundational member of a small, dynamic team dedicated to creating cutting-edge solutions that redefine online relationships.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the recommendations platform and evolve systems servicing millions of members.
• Identify high-leverage engineering investments across retrieval, ranking, and serving.
• Lead the design of large-scale distributed systems for recommendations across multiple teams.
• Solve high-leverage technical problems and clarify ambiguous architectural decisions.
• Establish architectural principles, engineering standards, and observability practices.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across teams.
• Drive long-term platform evolution including service decomposition, infrastructure, and developer tooling.
• Write and review high-quality code and rapidly prototype new ideas.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building large-scale backend or distributed systems.
• Experience delivering complex technical initiatives spanning multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in designing and operating high-scale distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of recommendation systems, ranking architectures, and decision systems.
• Experience building cloud-native systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or comparable infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy and influence architectural direction.
• Proven experience partnering with Product, Data Science, and Engineering leadership.
• Track record of mentoring senior engineers and improving engineering standards.
• Strong AI fluency and experience using modern AI-assisted engineering tools.
