About the Role
We are seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with research experience in machine learning development, computational social sciences, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics to join Communications AI & Computing. This multidisciplinary open-access journal publishes high-quality research across computational sciences and AI, championing rigorous, reproducible, and reusable computational research. The role involves selecting and developing manuscripts for publication and promoting the journal’s coverage of computer science research. Experience in AI ethics and human-machine interaction is welcome but not necessary.
Responsibilities
- Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice, following the journal’s editorial policy and standards.
- Contributing to the development of editorial policies and guidelines for research involving AI and computational sciences, with a focus on open science.
- Making accepted manuscripts accessible to a broad computer science readership by advising authors on titles, abstracts, introductions, and structure, as well as ensuring high overall reporting standards.
- Helping to recruit, support, and engage a team of external editors, guiding and assisting them with editorial tasks and ensuring they implement the journal’s philosophy and policies.
- Commissioning various content including Reviews, Perspectives and Comment articles.
- Attending conferences and meetings and visiting research institutions, and reporting on these activities.
- Broadcasting published works by curating and suggesting publications for press releases or Research Highlights.
- Contributing editorial content to special projects or collections as agreed with the Chief Editor.
Requirements
- PhD level research experience in machine learning, including algorithm development, computational social science, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics.
- A strength in AI ethics and human-machine interaction is welcome but not necessary.
- Candidates from other AI-related disciplines areas, especially with clear ethical and policy relevance, are also welcome to apply.
- Editorial experience, postdoctoral experience, and broad training will be an advantage but not an essential requirement.
- A passion for science and a desire to learn more.
- Demonstrated breadth of interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your specialty.
- The ability to read and assess the novelty, context, and implications of research submitted to the journal from different disciplines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- A desire to meet scientists worldwide, online and in person, and to learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
