About the Role
This is a Linux Systems Engineer role at Vice President level, responsible for maintaining and improving Linux infrastructure for Morgan Stanley's algorithmic and low latency trading servers. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including hardware, Red Hat Linux, configuration management, system services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), and a variety of in-house developed tools.
Responsibilities
- Manage, deploy and debug large scale production environments, collaborating closely with software engineers and reliability engineers.
- Participate in a global, follow the sun, oncall rotation for production issues.
- Lead the technical troubleshooting and communicate with other internal stakeholders during incidents.
- Write and maintain documentation for systems, processes and procedures.
- Configure Linux systems using git, CI/CD pipelines and the configuration-as-code paradigm.
- Write new, and maintain existing, automation scripts in Python.
- Interact with global colleagues to deliver cross-disciplinary technology infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the server estate and operating model by speaking in global departmental forums.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Enterprise Level Experience in Large Distributed Environment.
- Self-starter, able to act like an owner, prioritize requests, collaborate with others, and manage ambiguity.
- Knowledge of Linux Systems - Hardware and Automated Build including Automated Lights Out Management.
- Comfortable building systems from scratch, changing configuration and amending code-paths.
- Understanding of kernel bypass and how it relates to latency sensitive devices.
- Familiarity with Linux kernel internals and performance tuning would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, experience with networking and security concepts, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with monitoring tools and solutions.
- Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills in a highly visible faced paced enterprise environment.
- Coding experience preferably with Python.
- Experience working on shared code bases using best practices in CI, git, release management and change control.
- If this role is deemed a Certified role, may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.
