About the Role

The Senior Digital Buildings Engineer integrates BMS, IoT devices, and facility management systems into a cloud platform, enabling secure data flow for analytics and operational efficiency. This platform-agnostic role involves collaboration with global teams across IT, security, and infrastructure, and engagement with multiple cloud environments and diverse technologies. The engineer must possess strong technical adaptability, quick decision-making, and effective communication skills to support smart, data-driven building operations. Additionally, the role requires active contribution to team development and wider business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth integration, optimization, and security of applications on cloud platforms.
  • Troubleshoot issues, manage performance, and align cloud solutions with business objectives.
  • Deliver technical and non-technical engineering services and projects for clients according to proposals and scopes of work.
  • Manage workload and escalate issues to line manager.
  • Conduct research and technical analysis across engineering systems.
  • Perform on-site physical building inspections and remote network discoveries to identify IP-capable IoT/OT devices and control systems.
  • Map physical device locations and compile site data registers.
  • Interview facility management teams and sub-contractors to document network architecture and configuration.
  • Escalate critical operational, energy performance, data anomaly, or cybersecurity risks.
  • Lead the production of technical reports, documentation, and project outputs.
  • Assess and analyze existing building systems (BMS, HVAC, lighting, energy, IoT).
  • Map and document building systems architecture for cloud migration compatibility.
  • Configure cloud infrastructure for data reception and processing.
  • Develop and implement data flow protocols from on-premises systems to cloud platforms.
  • Set up required services, storage, and data processing pipelines on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and data privacy policies.
  • Implement encryption, authentication, and access control measures.
  • Analyze system data to generate insights on performance, sustainability, and operations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on building operations for stakeholders.
  • Liaise with IT, facility management, and operations teams.
  • Provide technical support and training to on-site staff.
  • Conduct pre- and post-onboarding testing.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to data transmission, system compatibility, and network connectivity.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of onboarding processes, system configurations, and cloud settings.
  • Generate regular reports on onboarding status, system performance, and key metrics.
  • Mentor and train Digital Buildings engineers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, supporting the team in complex problem-solving.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and help develop documentation and training resources.
  • Contribute to improving project delivery processes, tools, and frameworks.
  • Support lessons learned, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Encourage adoption of best practices and efficient ways of working.
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
  • Represent FPC professionally in all client and internal interactions.
  • Lead and support project teams.
  • Adhere to company policies, governance standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement across delivery operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls engineering or a related field.
  • Typically 7-12 years of experience in design and configuration of building automation systems, cloud integration, or IT infrastructure roles.
  • Experience with Systems Integration related projects or related industries such as Architecture, MEP Engineering Design or Construction.
  • Strong understanding of MEP Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong understanding of energy performance analytics.
  • Knowledge of edge computing and data preprocessing methods for IoT systems.
  • Basic technical understanding in delivering digital / smart building and IoT technology projects.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret building performance data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.
  • Client-Focused: Excellent client relationship management skills.
  • Process Improvement: Proven experience in understanding and contributing to SOPs, MOPs, and RACIs.
