About the Role

This position is responsible for business development and alliance management in new disease areas for future growth, in addition to existing areas including neurology, immuno-inflammation, and bone, within a local scope centered in Japan. The primary objective is to maximize product and pipeline value through collaboration with partner companies and to promote the creation of new business opportunities. Specifically, the role involves leading partnership negotiations from terms to post-contract operations, particularly in development stages (clinical trials and new dosage form development). Furthermore, in collaboration with domestic and international cross-functional teams, this role will drive the exploration, evaluation, and execution of partnering opportunities in new disease areas beyond existing ones, contributing to sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize the value of alliance products and development pipelines.
  • Manage alliance governance and relationships.
  • Manage conflicts with partners.
  • Negotiate terms and manage operations with partner companies for clinical trials and new dosage form development.
  • Promote development activities and manage progress based on agreed terms.
  • Explore and promote partnering opportunities in new disease areas, in addition to existing ones, during the development stage.
  • Build strategic alliances with pharmaceutical companies, academia, and companies in other industries such as healthcare, IT, and finance.

Requirements

  • Lead the execution of partnering strategies and the creation of results in new disease areas, not just existing ones.
  • Lead complex development-stage alliances (including clinical trials and dosage form development) to maximize value.
  • Drive consensus-building among internal and external stakeholders, including discussions with high uncertainty regarding new areas.
  • Lead communication across diverse professional fields (development, regulatory affairs, business).
  • Independently make investment and partnership decisions in new disease areas, considering risks and opportunities.
  • Lead important decision-making regarding development strategies and partnership terms.
  • Present strategic and flexible solutions for uncertainties and structural issues unique to new areas.
  • Coordinate complex stakeholder relationships and guide them toward executable agreements.
  • Negotiate and manage with a focus on investment efficiency for development-stage and new area projects.
  • Make appropriate decisions based on domestic and international laws and regulations, compliance, and internal guidelines.
  • Create new strategic partnership opportunities not only within the pharmaceutical industry but also in healthcare, IT, finance, and other fields.
