About the Role

The Engineer provides a wide range of engineering support services to ensure the technical soundness, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The role involves leading/supporting grid innovation projects from concept development to integration, focusing on new capacity tools for investment planning and grid operation needs. This includes customer/partner engagement, distribution planning analysis, and business case development.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to develop solutions/programs supporting planning and operation tools.
  • Perform distribution system planning analysis to assess emerging technology benefits for system capacity, performance, and reliability.
  • Develop new datasets for analyzing and uncovering opportunities for emerging technologies.
  • Engage with customers to find collaboration opportunities for technology implementation.
  • Secure project funding by developing business cases and executing pilot project delivery.
  • Stay abreast of trends and technical innovations for potential business development opportunities.
  • Undertake special investigations and studies, preparing reports with recommendations.
  • Ensure timely, technically accurate, and cost-effective application of engineering practices.
  • Compare alternatives based on cost/benefit, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis, and engineering principles, recommending the optimum solution.
  • Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers.
  • May act as a team or project leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in supporting Engineering or System Planning, with data analytics (including scenario‑based forecasting) for energy or utility networks.
  • Masters in Business Administration or other business related training/experience preferred.
  • Technical experience with emerging technologies such as EVs, battery energy storage, or other distributed energy resource technologies is an asset.
  • Experience with advanced analytics on large, complex datasets, including data linkage, processing, and preparation for predictive modeling and forecasting.
  • Experience using Python for data analysis, automation, and predictive modeling, with supporting experience in database manipulation and data integration using SQL or similar tools, is considered an asset.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to navigate detailed technical issues and positive business outcomes is an asset.
  • Experience within the electrical utility industry, electrical/technical consulting industry, is considered an asset.
  • Electrical distribution system planning and/or design experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements.
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities.
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change, willing to challenge the status quo.

Salary/Compensations

  • $104,097 - $146,959 Annually
  • Target Variable Performance Pay: 8%
