About the Role

Montgomery College has an immediate opening for a full-time Learning Center Manager. This position directs the daily operation of a learning center, including planning activities, providing instructional support, maintaining materials, and managing the budget. The role also involves supervising staff and managing the center's computer system and assessment data.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, coordinate, and manage the operations of the learning center.
  • Manage staff and student assistants, including hiring, orienting, scheduling, evaluating, and training.
  • Coordinate virtual tutoring for Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Coordinate Learning Commons collegewide workshop schedule.
  • Collaborate with Library staff and student assistants to provide consistent coverage and support.
  • Coordinate with IT and SIS on planning, testing, and implementation of new system processes and software.
  • Maintain records and produce reports on learning center operations, including equipment repair, maintenance, and instructional materials inventory.
  • Monitor the learning center budget.
  • Hire and train faculty tutors.
  • Implement learning center technology, theory, and practice to reinforce learning.
  • Identify and recommend instructional resources for faculty and student use.
  • Implement and enforce policies regarding usage and development of student support services.
  • Research current tutoring trends and pedagogy.
  • Design training and workshops for staff, students, and/or faculty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the subject, content, and curriculum areas addressed in the learning center.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and educational materials employed in a learning center.
  • Knowledge of current tutoring pedagogy, especially as related to the mission and student populations of community colleges.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices as applied to the operations of a learning resources center.
  • Skill in using personal computers and instructional technology.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject area to which the position is assigned.
  • Three years tutoring/working in a computerized learning center supporting the academic program and working within the pedagogy of the subject area.
  • Two years of supervisory experience or four years of lead level experience, including managing work, evaluating staff, enforcing policies, and training staff.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of a background check and degree verification (if applicable).
  • Participation in a Maryland State Retirement System plan.

  • $81,740 – $106,250 annually
  • Maximum salary $130,760
