About the Role

Zencargo is seeking a Forward-Deployed Engineer to bridge engineering, product, and operations. This role focuses on rapidly solving operational and customer challenges by understanding user workflows, identifying areas for software and AI intervention, and building solutions that deliver measurable results. You will own the process from problem discovery to solution delivery and iteration.

Responsibilities

• Embed with operations teams and internal stakeholders to understand complex freight and supply-chain workflows.
• Translate loosely defined business problems into clear technical solutions, determining when to extend existing functionality and when to build new.
• Automate manual, spreadsheet, and inbox-based decisions through platform logic, with increasing AI involvement over time.
• Build and deploy prototypes, automations, and production-ready features, integrating with internal services, carrier platforms, and third-party APIs.
• Utilize AI and modern development tools for accelerated delivery and as core components of solutions.
• Work with structured and unstructured data, including emails, documents, purchase orders, shipment data, and operational events.
• Test and measure solutions against real workflows and user feedback to improve manual effort, accuracy, processing speed, and business operations.
• Identify patterns across problems and convert them into reusable platform functionality.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, core Engineering, Data, and Infrastructure teams, retaining ownership of delivery.
• Communicate technical decisions, limitations, and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives.
• Maintain appropriate standards for security, reliability, data protection, and maintainability, and support solutions through implementation and early adoption.
• Achieve outcomes such as reduced manual effort, improved speed, accuracy, cost, or service quality.
• Facilitate faster problem-to-solution delivery.
• Drive adoption and effective use of delivered solutions.
• Ensure reliability, security, and maintainability of deployed solutions.
• Convert repeated problems into reusable platform capabilities.

Requirements

• Strong professional software engineering experience across the full lifecycle, from discovery to production deployment and operation.
• Experience building and consuming APIs, webhooks, and system integrations.
• Experience working with databases, data models, and event-driven workflows.
• Fluent use of AI-assisted development tools is essential.
• Strong product judgment, with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar business processes, identify core problems, and distinguish them from immediate user requests.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and making decisions without perfect requirements, with a bias toward action, experimentation, and iterative delivery.
• Confidence working directly with operational users and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, Data, and Infrastructure teams.
• Skill in explaining technical concepts in clear, practical language.
• Strong ownership, including responsibility for solution outcomes.
• Good understanding of software quality, observability, testing, security, and maintainable architecture.
• Experience in freight, logistics, or supply chain, or in another B2B SaaS or operational technology environment.
• Experience building workflow automation or orchestration.
• Experience with large language model applications and unstructured-data problems.
• Experience integrating with ERP, transport-management, warehouse-management, or internal operational systems.
• Experience in a solutions engineering, implementation, internal-tools, or forward-deployed role.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, Terraform, CI/CD, and production support, ideally in an early-stage or high-growth environment.
