About the Role
The Patient Access Representative welcomes, greets, and interviews patients and/or representatives to ensure an exceptional initial hospital experience. This role is crucial for obtaining necessary demographic and insurance information for proper billing and reimbursement, securing required signatures, and providing excellent patient service with professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Communicate directly with patients and/or families in person or on the phone to complete the registration process by collecting patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility/benefits.
- Utilize computer systems to enter or verify patient data in real-time, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Gather necessary clinical information and process referrals, pre-certification, pre-determinations, and pre-authorizations according to insurance plan requirements.
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and create price estimates, reverifying as needed.
- Collect patient co-pays and discuss out-of-pocket financial obligations.
- Identify outstanding balances from previous visits and attempt to collect any amount due.
- Collect data directly from patients and refer to provider offices to confirm and create scheduled appointments for patient services prior to hospital discharge.
- Respond to patient and caregiver inquiries related to routine and sensitive topics with compassion and respect.
- Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports and follow up on issues and inconsistencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Ability to work onsite at 1 Norton Ave, Oneonta, NY
- Ability to work 3:00pm - 11:00pm Monday - Friday, plus occasional weekends
- Must be 18 years of age OR older
- 1+ years of experience in scheduling and authorizations
- Healthcare experience and clinical knowledge
- Ability to work night and weekend hours
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate with individuals and groups of adults at all levels within the organization
- Ability to build rapport quickly, develop trust, sustain working relationships, and represent CRH positively in internal and external meetings
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Basic keyboarding skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Standing for long periods of time (10 hours) while using a workstation on wheels and phone/headset
- Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
