About the Role

The VP, Underwriting - Financial Institutions is responsible for building and underwriting a diverse profitable book of new and renewal Financial Institutions business. This role requires extensive knowledge of complex financial institutions risks, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of driving profitable growth. The position reports to the SVP Head of Financial Institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Review submissions to ensure alignment with risk appetite and business strategy.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key brokers and wholesalers nationwide.
  • Generate new business by leveraging and cultivating new and existing broker/client relationships to develop innovative ways to deploy Financial Institutions products and solutions.
  • Analyze complex risks and unusual transaction structures thoroughly and effectively.
  • Perform underwriting activities associated with managing all underwriting transactions, service standards, compliance rules, and documentation.
  • Demonstrate a customer service mindset by proactively engaging internal and external contacts.
  • Collaborate and correspond with internal and external contacts to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations.
  • Interact directly with various business partners and internal departments.
  • Meet departmental service standards in place for each process.
  • Mentor and coach junior underwriters both technically and professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline required or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Financial Institutions Underwriting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to support leadership in scaling a profitable portfolio.
  • Established network of broker relationships and strong reputation within the Financial Institutions network.
  • Deep Financial Institutions underwriting and product acuity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to process and adapt to change in a rapid growth and data-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 25%).
  • Associates are expected to be curious, thrifty, and resourceful to manage through the unknowns of growing a specialty re/insurance business.
