About the Role
We are looking for a skilled End of Line Mechanical Technician to join our team on 2nd shift (3:00pm-11:30pm). This role is essential in ensuring the mechanical systems and components of our autonomous surface vessels are thoroughly tested, assembled, and meet all specifications before they are delivered to the DoD. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and final inspection of complex mechanical systems. You will work closely with engineers and production teams to ensure the highest standards of mechanical performance and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform end-of-line mechanical testing, troubleshooting, and validation of mechanical systems for autonomous surface vessels.
- Conduct final checks and diagnostics on critical mechanical components, including propulsion systems, drive shafts, motors, actuators, and structural assemblies.
- Use mechanical tools and equipment (e.g., torque wrenches, hydraulic presses, vibration analyzers) to ensure systems are functioning properly.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical specifications, and assembly instructions to assess and troubleshoot systems.
- Work closely with engineers to identify and resolve mechanical issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all mechanical systems meet performance, safety, and compliance standards before vessels are shipped to clients.
- Maintain thorough logs of test results, repairs, modifications, and any deviations from standard procedures.
- Assist in the calibration of mechanical systems and components used during production.
- Follow all best practices and safety standards in mechanical work, ensuring that all systems meet industry standards.
- Provide feedback to design and engineering teams to optimize product designs and improve mechanical processes.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical problems in prototype vessels and provide support for new vessel designs.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a mechanical technician or similar role, ideally in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, assembly processes, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Proficiency with mechanical testing tools (e.g., torque wrenches, hydraulic presses, vibration analyzers).
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, testing, and maintenance of complex systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards for mechanical safety and compliance (e.g., ASME, MIL-STD).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality mechanical systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Experience working with autonomous systems, unmanned vehicles, or defense technologies.
- Knowledge of mechanical software tools for system diagnostics and testing.
- Familiarity with the assembly and integration of propulsion and power transmission systems in unmanned vehicles.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours/day.
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs.
- Ability to work outside for an extended period of time.
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install vehicle parts of varying size and weight overhead, accurately and in allotted timeframes.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain.
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, platforms, or other high structures.
- Ability to find issues in a work process and be alert to safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling and mechanically fasten bolts within required cycle time.
- Exposures to hazardous materials and ability to follow waste handling/disposal procedures.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
- Requires access to export-controlled information or items that require “U.S. Person” status (U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, or certain protected classes of asylees and refugees).
