About the Role
Microsoft AI Monetization is seeking a Principal UX Researcher to help set the path for next-generation AI-powered experiences focused on monetization. This role involves moving between exploratory and generative research to rapid evaluations of prototyped ideas, uncovering and answering unspoken questions with precision, and centering user needs. The ideal candidate is energized by direct, tangible product impact and is a solid mixed-methods researcher comfortable with interviews and deep data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Understand customer behaviors, motivations, needs, and aspirations to create differentiated and impactful experiences.
- Drive product strategy through rigorous, multi-stage research executed to the highest standards.
- Balance research rigor with scrappiness and the ability to adapt to a fast-moving team.
- Drive cross-team collaborations among all disciplines from early product stages to final implementations.
- Guide teams in creative new directions and help set ambitious goals.
- Identify new opportunities and generate innovative ideas to improve processes, culture, and research approaches.
- Lead research on highly visible products or business initiatives with notable risk and complexity.
- Regularly influence at the highest levels of organizations.

Requirements
- Doctorate in a related field and 3+ years of UX Research experience, OR Master's Degree and 4+ years of UX Research experience, OR Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of UX Research experience, OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Doctorate in a related field and 5+ years of UX Research experience, OR Master's Degree and 8+ years of UX Research experience, OR Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of UX Research experience, OR equivalent experience (Preferred).
- 8+ years of experience working in UX research or a related field (Preferred).
- High-level research skills across qualitative and quantitative methods (Mixed Methods researcher) (Preferred).
- Excellent communication and presentation/storytelling skills (Preferred).
- Experience working in B2B and B2C product spaces (Preferred).
- Experience working on AI products (Preferred).
- Demonstrated championing of user experience fundamentals, including accessibility and inclusive design (Preferred).
- Experience with commonly used research tools (Preferred).

- USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year (U.S. typical base pay range)
- USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area base pay range)
