About the Role

The Automation Technician ensures the effective functioning, reliability, and timely repair of mechanical, electrical, and control components in highly automated facilities. This role involves performing maintenance inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs, with a focus on complex tasks such as PLC programming, robotic troubleshooting, and high-voltage circuit maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Interpret technical information and lead equipment repair and troubleshooting.
  • Assist operators with equipment changeovers and line startups.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on production machinery and facility support equipment.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical orders to determine assembly methods.
  • Verify part dimensions and clearances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Implement and test design solutions.
  • Provide technical training to maintenance and production associates.
  • Inspect and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Adhere to safety policies, Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, GMPs, and OSHA standards.
  • Develop sustainable solutions for plant mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Complete work orders using CMMS and maintain detailed logs.
  • Perform lubrication tasks.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, including cycle counts and reordering.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Document information in written or electronic form.
  • Test performance of integrated systems.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and documentation.
  • Ability to work off ground level with proper safety training.
  • Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
  • Successful completion of required safety training (LOTO, Forklift, Scissor lift).
  • Knowledge of machines, tools, designs, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and schematics.
  • Experience in a bakery is a plus.

Skills

  • PLC program interpretation and manipulation.
  • Robotic programming and troubleshooting (6-axis).
  • VFD settings and troubleshooting.
  • 480VAC circuit maintenance (Single and 3-phase).
  • Industrial control software (HMI, Motion control, SCADA).
  • Mechanical repair and alignment (gearboxes, bearings, belts, clutches).
  • Use of power tools, hand tools, and shop tools.
  • Use of precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers).
  • Electromechanical system troubleshooting.
  • Problem sensitivity and control precision.
