About the Role

The Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) will work within the Early Learning Centre to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children. Under the guidance of a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), the ECA assists in implementing children's programs, maintaining classroom routines, and supporting the developmental needs of children in accordance with provincial legislation and center policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children in a safe and healthy environment
  • Update attendance records throughout the day
  • Conduct consistent headcounts during indoor and outdoor transitions
  • Assist the RECE in preparing and setting up program activities
  • Document observations on child behavior and responses to track developmental needs
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with families, peers, and visitors
  • Establish and follow daily routines and schedules
  • Ensure consistent behavior guidance and management in line with ELC policy
  • Organize classrooms, including toys and equipment
  • Maintain records, program plans, and daily care documentation
  • Assist with opening and closing the center
  • Participate in regular supervision and professional development
  • Perform assigned housekeeping duties
  • Report signs of child abuse to the Children's Aid Society
  • Inform the ELC Director and team members of illnesses, injuries, and absenteeism

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Assistant certificate, equivalent experience, or current enrollment in an ECE program
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Credential verifications and references
  • Ability to lift children up to 45 lbs
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, and climbing stairs
