About the Role
Farmers Group seeks a Lead Data Scientist to apply advanced analytics and modeling to improve business results, leveraging customer information and behavioral data to influence strategic decisions. This role involves using innovative techniques like machine learning and data mining, and leading complex cross-functional projects.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership and execute on more complex business challenges involving data science.
- Execute and lead broad projects independently with a sense of urgency.
- Utilize specialized knowledge of consumer analytics including retention models, agency economics, and lead optimization.
- Utilize broad knowledge of advanced programming, complex ETL, and specialized modeling methods to execute projects and lead the team.
- Demonstrate clean reusable code and effective documentation.
- Act as the main contributor to multiple phases of a data science project.
- Utilize influence, a strong sense of ownership, and contribute to multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Partner closely with IT, business, and data management/engineering teams to understand, utilize, and improve data infrastructure.
- Advise on complex matters and serve as an objective and transparent partner to drive fact-based decision making.
- Deliver results both individually and by mentoring and empowering other team members.
- Develop presentations and present to all groups and levels of leadership, including executives.
- Manage specialized model deployments via MLOps techniques.
- Partner closely with analytics and IT teams to deploy models/rules in various platforms and lead testing of new solutions.
- Take an active role in steering MLOps environment improvements.
- Mentor and provide guidance to team members.
- Review AI/ML modeling, statistical analysis, and data analysis completed by other team members, providing coaching and feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Data Engineering or a closely related field of study.
- 5 years of experience in the job offered, or as an Associate – Projects, Programmer Analyst, SQL Server Developer, or similar advanced data analytics position.
- 2 years of experience working with database management language SQL.
- 2 years of experience working with large datasets leveraging ETL tools including SSIS.
- 1 year of experience working in the insurance industry with related data assets including customer data, financial and operational transactional data, quote data, and data on insurable interests.
- 1 year of experience working with predictive modeling and advanced data analytics.
- 1 year of experience working with Python programming.
- 1 year of experience working with business partners to understand business needs, analytics, and reporting requirements and provide solutions.
- 1 year of experience developing dashboards, scorecards, and data visualizations to drive performance improvement and support business operations using Tableau.
