About the Role

The Manager, Advocacy and Community Engagement manages the implementation and execution of advocacy and engagement goals within the business unit plan and organizational strategy. This role represents the organization to elected officials and community leaders, fostering strategic partnerships and leading grassroots mobilization efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies public policy issues and develops advocacy strategies for governmental targets.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to achieve legislative and policy goals.
  • Represents the organization to governmental bodies and monitors relevant legislation.
  • Manages audience engagement strategies and designs opportunities aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Establishes community partnerships and leverages resources to increase organizational visibility.
  • Directs volunteer recruitment, training, and deployment, maximizing engagement.
  • Develops and executes advocacy campaigns, utilizing direct action organizing tactics.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with elected officials and governmental representatives.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to advance the organization's advocacy agenda.
  • Ensures strong people management, monitoring and supporting employee engagement.

Requirements

  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Strong understanding of public policy issues in Texas and for AARP membership.
  • Policy experience preferred.
  • Experience with strategic planning and financial/budget management required.
  • Regular and reliable job attendance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to use independent judgment in evaluation options to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
