Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual resident needs
  • Ensure all food is prepared safely, following proper hygiene and sanitation standards
  • Plan menus in collaboration with healthcare professionals to meet nutritional requirements
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food storage areas
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and food handling regulations
  • Record and document meal preparation and service activities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Prior cooking experience in a school, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen preferred
  • Ability to follow recipes, food safety procedures, and production schedules
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, loud, and sometimes stressful school cafeteria environment
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Excellent time management and teamwork skills
  • Must pass all required background checks per NYS and school district guidelines

Skills

  • Proven experience as a cook, preferably in healthcare or institutional settings
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines
  • Ability to follow recipes and food safety standards meticulously
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
