About the Role
Terminal is hiring a Founding Technical Recruiter to build and own the company's technical hiring function. This senior role offers a mandate with direct company-level impact, focusing on protecting talent density as Terminal scales. You will report to the CEO and work closely with the CTO and technical leads, prioritizing data platform engineering roles while managing other engineering and data searches. The goal is to build the recruiting system that future hiring partners will inherit.
Responsibilities
- Own technical recruiting end-to-end, running full-cycle recruiting for engineering, data, and other technical roles.
- Prioritize data platform engineering searches.
- Manage sourcing, screening, scheduling, references, offers, and closing.
- Build and maintain a live map of Toronto engineers.
- Conduct outbound sourcing and write candidate messaging.
- Calibrate the technical bar with the CTO and technical leads.
- Build interview loops, scorecards, and debrief practices.
- Close senior and staff engineers, including compensation conversations involving early-stage equity.
- Review new hires at 90 days, six months, and twelve months.
- Run hiring as a system using Ashby.
- Protect interviewer hours and manage interviewer loads.
- Partner with leadership on headcount sequencing, role design, and offer calibration.
- Feed the employer brand with stories of Terminal's engineering culture.
Requirements
- 5+ years of recruiting experience, with at least two years owning full-cycle recruiting at an early-stage startup.
- Experience closing senior and staff engineers in competitive markets against competing offers.
- Experience with compensation conversations including early-stage equity.
- Ability to source technically and hold credible conversations with senior and staff engineers.
- Proficiency in managing pipeline numbers and forecasting.
- Experience as a company builder with views on team development.
- Comfort building recruiting functions independently in a changing environment.
- Strong writing skills for candidate outreach.
- Experience using AI in recruiting workflows for sourcing, screening, and scheduling.
- Experience as the first recruiter at a company is a plus.
- Experience recruiting for companies with highly technical products and staff is a plus.
- Existing network across Toronto's engineering and data communities is a plus.
- Experience working at a company with a high bar quality and talent is a plus.
