About the Role
Cherry Bekaert, a leading accounting and consulting firm, is seeking an R&D Senior Associate for its Tax Credits & Incentives Advisory team. This role offers the opportunity to work hybrid from any office location or remotely within the United States, focusing on R&D Tax Credit consulting services.
Responsibilities
- Provide tax consulting services related to the Research and Development Tax Credit and IRC Section 174 capitalization and amortization rules.
- Understand common software development methodologies, programming concepts, architectural design patterns, and popular computer software terms.
- Conduct technical interviews to gather qualitative details on qualifying research activities under Section 41.
- Review technical documentation to draft project narratives documenting compliance with Section 41 guidelines.
- Collaborate with team members to scope Research Tax Credit benefits, conduct studies, perform tax technical research, and interact with clients across various industries.
- Create and update costing models for tracking business expenditures and calculating credits and capitalization amounts.
- Understand the value of employer time tracking and its integration into projects.
Requirements
- Prior experience from an accounting firm working with clients and the IRC Section 41 research credit.
- Recent industry experience in software development, consulting, or engineering is preferable.
- Knowledge of common computer infrastructure concepts, web-based or n-tiered architectures, and performance tuning of databases and middleware.
- Written and verbal communication skills adequate to conduct technical interviews and write project narratives.
- Strong writing skills to accurately capture and articulate information from subject matter experts.
- An inquisitive mind with a commitment to continuous self-education in the specialty area.
- Demonstrated eligibility to work in the United States.
- Candidates must not require work sponsorship.
