About the Role
Lounge by Zalando is seeking a Senior ML Software Engineer to own and grow the machine-learning systems for campaign personalization across multiple channels, starting with email. The role involves building feature pipelines, training workflows, and scalable inference systems, with a focus on proving impact through A/B testing. You will collaborate with Principal Engineers, product managers, and data science teams, leveraging AI coding agents to accelerate development.
Responsibilities
- Own personalization end to end, extending the campaign-ordering ranking system to email via Braze.
- Build and own feature engineering pipelines in Spark/Databricks, backed by a feature store.
- Operate scalable batch and real-time inference serving millions of requests.
- Build tracking, attribution, and A/B testing to measure personalized outcomes and incremental lift.
- Connect data-science models (churn, next-best-action, propensity) into customer touchpoints.
- Design for testability and reliability, lead production-readiness reviews, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Solid track record of productionizing machine learning systems, including feature pipelines, training workflows, and model serving.
- Hands-on expertise with distributed data processing (Spark, ideally on Databricks) and feature engineering for recommendation, ranking, or personalization systems.
- Deep professional Python experience for ML systems, covering the full lifecycle from data to deployed inference.
- Experience running ML on AWS (e.g., SageMaker), with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability.
- Experience with A/B testing at scale, incrementality, and offline/online evaluation.
- Proficiency in using AI coding tools and agent-assisted workflows.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-specialists and drive cross-team projects.
