About the Role
This role provides construction inspection and contract administration support by reviewing drawings, monitoring contractor activities, verifying material compliance, tracking project progress, and documenting inspections, testing, and payments. It also coordinates project documentation, reports, schedules, and closeout activities while identifying and resolving nonconforming work under the supervision of a Resident Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
- Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor’s daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment, and materials used.
- Review construction materials for contract compliance.
- Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
- Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
- Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems.
- Identify nonconforming work, develop project punch list and maintain until corrected.
- Review contractor payments and submittits.
- Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
- Prepare and maintain a tracking spreadsheet/database to monitor and coordinate construction schedule, inspections, and incoming QC support documentation.
- Review, log, and distribute documents to the appropriate disciplines.
- Prepare progress reports, monthly reports, project meeting minutes, and general correspondence.
- Assist in the preparation of project closeout documents and final reports.
- Work under general supervision of a Resident Engineer.
- Perform other tasks as deemed necessary.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil preferred) from an accredited college.
- Minimum of five years of experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure projects specifically sewers, water mains and highways.
- Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and maintain accurate records and documentation.
