About the Role

The Success Mentor provides long-term support to elementary and/or middle school students, focusing on social-emotional development and academic success. This role involves building strong relationships with children and families over at least twelve months, working collaboratively with a team, and contributing to a positive after-school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and support parents regarding student progress and opportunities.
  • Provide support and intervention to keep students on track for success.
  • Build and maintain a personal and optimistic relationship with each child.
  • Monitor student progress and assist them in achieving personal objectives.
  • Interact with students during after-school hours to support positive growth.
  • Deliver timely feedback to students and parents to encourage engagement in the child's social-emotional development.
  • Communicate any concerns to students, parents, and school leadership.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring in a supportive after-school setting.
  • Work consistent Monday through Friday hours with potential for weekend or evening activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting the social-emotional well-being of elementary school students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience communicating with and supporting families through workshops, interaction, and intervention.
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role in self-paced online learning.
  • Ability to access and transmit information using a computer.
  • May be required to walk up and down stairs.
  • May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may require community interaction during trips or events.
  • Must report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.
  • Requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health upon offer and acceptance.
