About the Role

The Varsity Girls Assistant Water Polo Coach supports the Varsity Head Coach in developing and managing the varsity girls Water Polo team. The assistant coach will provide instruction, mentorship, and supervision to student-athletes, helping to foster their growth in Water Polo skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The assistant coach will also ensure the smooth running of practices and games in coordination with the head coach.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing practices focused on developing players’ technical skills, fitness, and game understanding.
  • Support the varsity head coach in managing match day operations, including player warm-ups, substitutions, and tactical adjustments.
  • Provide individual attention to players to improve their skills and understanding of the game.
  • Foster positive relationships with players, coaches, and parents, providing clear communication about team expectations and schedules.
  • Assist in evaluating player performance during practices and games, offering feedback and support for continued development.
  • Reinforce values of respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork both on and off the field.
  • Assist in ensuring player safety by following all health and safety guidelines during practices and games.
  • Help with pool setup, collecting equipment, and maintaining team gear as needed.
  • Work closely with the varsity head coach to align with the team’s strategy, goals, and coaching philosophy.

Requirements

  • Prior experience playing or coaching Water Polo at the high school or youth level preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Water Polo rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Ability to connect with and motivate high school athletes.
  • Must hold current CIF/NFHS certifications or be willing to obtain them before the season starts.
  • Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policy.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dedication to promoting both athletic and academic success among student-athletes.
