About the Role

This role offers an opportunity for an early-career underwriter to specialize in Marine insurance within a leading Canadian insurer. You will work closely with broker partners to assess, price, and underwrite complex risks, transitioning from a brokerage or MGA environment to the carrier side. The position focuses on hands-on risk selection, portfolio management, and technical development through structured training and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, price, and underwrite Marine insurance risks including cargo, hull, and liability exposures.
  • Collaborate with brokers, corporate underwriting, and actuarial pricing teams.
  • Analyze exposure, data quality, pricing adequacy, and coverage structures.
  • Maintain high underwriting and service standards.
  • Manage Marine policy wordings and clauses.
  • Participate in ongoing training and mentorship to grow underwriting authority.

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of underwriting experience, ideally in commercial lines.
  • Foundational understanding of commercial insurance.
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Team-first, eager-to-learn attitude.
  • Completed or currently pursuing CIP designation.
  • Exposure to Marine insurance via underwriting, brokerage, MGA, or claims is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset.
