About the Role
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist II (Medical Technologist) - Gen Lab performs a defined set of laboratory procedures consistent with the needs of the shift, using established and approved protocols, exercising independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. This mid to senior level technical position involves performing procedures and examinations on material derived from the human body to provide information for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease or assessment of a human medical condition.
Responsibilities
- Maintains areas of responsibility in accordance with established standards and is ready for inspections.
- Adheres to established Laboratory policies and procedures through all phases of testing, including specimen handling, test analyses, quality control, instrument calibration, and maintenance.
- Attends all annual mandatory educational programs and maintains compliance with Occupational Medicine policies.
- Participates in and documents a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Maintains competency for all laboratory testing performed in assigned areas.
- Maintains a courteous and helpful rapport with patients, physicians, nurses, supervisors, visitors, coworkers, and other employees.
- Provides age-appropriate care and communicates in a friendly and effective manner.
- Adheres to all Arnot Health policies and procedures related to the position.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting and takes corrective action or notifies appropriate personnel.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Checks the accuracy of all equipment, instruments, media, and reagents by performing established lab QC procedures.
- Performs and documents preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on instrumentation.
- Processes testing and reports results as per protocol on all assigned platforms.
- Properly utilizes the Lab Information System for specimen tracking, labeling, result release, and maintaining pending logs.
- Accurately documents results on appropriate worksheets and reports by computer and phone.
- Performs manual result review.
- Attends continuing education sessions, laboratory meetings, and required in-service training.
- Uses unassigned time productively.
- Accepts a schedule including rotating weekends and holidays.
- Independently performs instrument calibrations, linearity studies, inter-instrument correlations, and pipette/thermometer calibrations.
- Assumes responsibility for supply inventory and follow-up ordering activities.
- Participates in educational tours and training of students and new employees.
- Accepts additional duties as assigned.
- Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying customer/patient needs by interacting in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to needs, and maintaining communication for a secure and pleasant experience.
Requirements
- Meets all requirements of federal and state regulations for a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Possesses good organizational and communication skills.
- No CPR required.
- Light to moderate physical effort.
- Occasional prolonged standing and walking.
- Typical clinical laboratory environment.
- Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

- NYSDOE Clinical Laboratory Technology license or application submitted.
