About the Role

Working remotely in London, ON, you will be a multi-media journalist able to move up a fast learning curve. An enterprising self-starter and team player, you have a sense for stories that resonate with London's diverse readership. The position requires working to tight deadlines, in clear, concise writing that engages readers, covering a wide range of news, entertainment and other subjects. Critical is the ability to use digital tools to break and develop stories, reflecting readers' real-time interests.

Responsibilities

Report and write stories, including shooting photos, for print, web, and mobile audiences, tailoring content for each platform.
Develop local story ideas daily and be flexible to pivot to other newsroom priorities.
Utilize social media and digital tools to identify breaking news and trending topics in London.
File video clips for digital platforms and collaborate with digital teams on interactive and multimedia content.
Cultivate sources to break stories and influence the news agenda.

Requirements

Journalism school graduate or candidate from a related field.
Ability to quickly layer and prioritize needs to rapidly move up the job learning curve.
Flexibility to write effectively in breaking news, features, short form, and non-traditional formats like explainers and Q/As.
A desire to work in a daily newsroom and contribute to the team.
A proactive approach to finding hidden story angles and developing explanatory journalism skills.
Interest in conveying the 'why' and 'how' behind events to readers.
Experience and strength in video or podcast presentation is an asset.
A valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are assets.
Legally eligible to work in Canada.
