About the Role

The Globe is seeking a deputy editor to help lead its personal finance and investing team. This management position will work with reporters, columnists, and market strategists to expand financial coverage and appeal to a broad range of readers, providing long-term financial planning guidance. This is an opportunity to help define The Globe’s coverage in topics that are key drivers of subscriptions and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Find and manage new columnists
  • Assign staff writers on investing and personal finance topics
  • Manage staff performance, motivate reporters to achieve their best, and encourage creativity and innovation
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop new tools, features, explainers, and interactives for financial planning
  • Use audience data to inform coverage and topic areas

Requirements

  • At least five years of previous editing and assigning experience
  • Experience cultivating new writers with an eye to diversifying contributors
  • Ability to think beyond standard storytelling formats and assist in developing new tools and interactives
  • Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video, and audio
  • Avid news consumer with previous experience working in business journalism
  • Previous managing or supervisory experience is an asset
