About the Role
Duolingo is seeking a Senior Data Science Manager to lead the data science function within the User Growth pillar. This role involves owning product data science, forecasting, and business intelligence, leading a team of 6-10 data scientists, and coaching them for professional growth. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in forecasting, modeling, and experimentation with strong leadership abilities to drive impactful decisions and elevate the team's performance.
Responsibilities
- Set the analytical vision and roadmap for User Growth data science, ensuring alignment with company and pillar priorities.
- Lead a team of 6 to 10 data scientists, fostering professional growth, intellectual rigor, and impact.
- Attract and hire outstanding talent to grow the data science team.
- Support and evolve the practice of embedding Data Scientists within product development teams.
- Own the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments and analyses for user acquisition, activation, retention, and reengagement.
- Improve and advocate for methodological standards for reliable learning from tests.
- Develop and maintain user growth forecasting systems, partnering with Finance and Product.
- Drive business intelligence strategy within Growth, including metrics, dashboards, and analytical infrastructure.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear narratives for senior leadership and partners.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Finance to enhance product development.
Requirements
- Experience using data science and analytics to solve product and business problems.
- Experience managing 5+ person data science teams.
- Applied industry experience using causal inference, experimentation, and/or machine learning models.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and grow a high-performing data science team.
- Strong command of SQL, Python or R, and data/analytics engineering ecosystems.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
