About the Role

The Anacker lab at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) is seeking a highly motivated, independent postdoctoral researcher to investigate neural circuits underlying vulnerability and resilience to stress using in vivo brain imaging techniques in rodent models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stereotaxic surgeries for virus injection and fiber implantation into the mouse brain.
  • Conduct mouse behavioral experiments using tasks of fear generalization and cognitive flexibility.
  • Perform optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulation of neural circuits in freely moving mice.
  • Conduct in vivo Ca2+ imaging of neural activity and neurotransmitter release in the mouse brain during behavior tasks.
  • Maintain transgenic mouse colonies and perform genotyping.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry and fluorescent microscopy.
  • Independently conduct daily tasks and analyze in vivo imaging data using advanced tools in MATLAB or Python.
  • Contribute to project development, including conceptual framing, conducting experiments, analyzing data, presenting findings at conferences, and publishing in scientific journals.

Requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience or related field.
  • At least two years of experience working with rodents.
  • High level of motivation and organization.
  • Experience with rodent behavior tasks.
  • Experience with stereotaxic surgeries for virus injections and/or fiber implantations into the mouse brain.
  • Analytic skills using basic statistical software (SPSS, R, GraphPad).
  • Knowledge of MATLAB or Python.
