About the Role

Humber River Health is seeking a Clerical Support Associate for the 11 East & West Surgical Inpatient Unit within the Surgical Program. This role is crucial in providing essential clerical and customer service functions to support patient care and hospital operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support including patient registration and discharge, maintenance of patient records, order entry, statistics, and assisting with patient billing.
  • Deliver customer service including scheduling appointments, answering patient and telephone inquiries, and greeting patients and visitors courteously.
  • Coordinate with bed allocation and other departments to arrange patient placement.
  • Liaise with other departments and service areas as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time recent clerical experience, preferably in an out-patient health care setting.
  • Computer skills required, with a typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize a varied and busy workload, manage tight deadlines, frequent interruptions, and emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline-free record.
  • Completed secretarial and medical terminology courses are preferred.
  • Meditech computer experience is preferred.
  • Community-wide scheduling experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
