About the Role
Reports to the Manager of Unit Associates, this role performs clerical and receptionist duties on Patient Care Units. Responsibilities include managing admissions, discharges, patient transfers, and unit supplies. The position assists in coordinating patient flow and Patient Care Services.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and employees.
- Contribute to and participate in Performance/Quality Improvement activities.
- Present a professional attitude and appearance to patients and customers.
- Maintain security with computer access and demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA Regulations/Patient Confidentiality.
- Identify patients using two identifiers and ensure appropriate ID bands are in place.
- Document and read back all verbal or telephone orders.
- Order all supplies using the Keane system as directed.
- Maintain admission and discharge log books on the unit.
- Demonstrate leadership ability to deal with ambiguity, change, and chaos in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Attend Unit Associate meetings at least 6 times a year.
- Facilitate teamwork, address issues with peers, subordinates, and supervisors positively.
- Demonstrate a positive approach toward the organization in all contacts.
- Manage time effectively.
- Demonstrate contribution to unit-based programs and research strategies.
- Understand the organization's fire/safety plan, emergency preparedness plan, and patient safety goals.
- Remove or report broken or damaged equipment promptly.
- Check alarm settings on the call bell system and ensure they are audible.
- Be cognizant of unit census and unit activity at all times.
- Maintain unit inventory of stationary supplies.
- Comply with uniform/dress code and grooming policy.
- Wear employee ID badge at all times.
- Participate in on-going in-service and educational programs.
- Comply with organizational procedures regarding absences, lateness, and meal breaks.
- Discharge and transfer patients on the Allscripts system with accuracy and timeliness.
- Schedule patient appointments on Allscripts (Areas: 5M, NICU ONLY).
- Generate various reports on the Allscripts system.
- Replace laser printer cartridges.
- Give report to oncoming Unit Associate, including daily activities, anticipated discharges/admissions/transfers, unit census, and patient schedules.
- Identify the location of medical records at all times.
- Welcome patients and families to the unit, answer questions, and orient them.
- Respond quickly to call lights and notify healthcare providers.
- Expedite patient flow by expediting the cleaning of patient beds.
- Maintain consistent communication with Admitting/Bed Board and Housekeeping to expedite patient movement.
- Demonstrate ability to obtain and interpret information regarding age-specific patient populations.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize growth and development issues for age-specific patient groups.
- Comply with annual mandatory programs designed to reinforce competency and patient safety.

- Evidence of satisfactory job performance from previous employer and satisfactory references.
