About the Role
The Director of Wholesale Compliance oversees and supports compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for wholesale banking operations, including commercial lending, commercial banking, and private banking. This role partners with wholesale banking leadership to ensure robust compliance controls and risk mitigation.
Responsibilities
- Advises wholesale banking executive management on critical compliance issues and participates on or leads compliance and governance committees.
- Provides policy and procedure revisions to ensure clarity regarding oversight and documentation for wholesale banking products and services.
- Maintains, updates, and files all applicable regulatory registrations, licenses, and filings; assists with client notices, disclosures, and documents.
- Maintains and updates risk assessment of compliance policies and procedures to drive monitoring and testing plans.
- Implements, maintains, and coordinates the periodic risk-based compliance testing program for wholesale banking operations.
- Performs compliance oversight, reporting, and remedial actions for breaches and escalates issues as appropriate.
- Assists with the review and approval of select correspondence, client requests, complaints, and RFPs/RFIs.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly management/board reporting on wholesale compliance metrics, risk assessments, and regulatory matters.
- Interfaces with regulatory bodies, manages external and internal regulatory audits, and coordinates requests and responses.
- Responsible for talent management functions, including employment, performance evaluations, staff development, disciplinary actions, and succession planning.
- Performs special projects and additional duties as required.
- Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards and completes required compliance trainings.
- Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in business administration, finance or related subject preferred.
- 12+ Years in similar compliance, legal, or regulatory roles within wholesale banking, commercial lending, or investment management operations in the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated compliance experience within a wholesale banking environment, including commercial lending, commercial banking, and/or private banking operations.
- Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or advanced legal training in banking and financial services law preferred.
- FINRA Series 7, 24, or 63/65 preferred for enhanced understanding of investment and advisory products.
- Advanced knowledge of banking regulations applicable to wholesale operations.
- Strong understanding of commercial lending compliance requirements.
- Ability to research, design, and implement comprehensive compliance programs and controls specific to wholesale banking operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple compliance initiatives, testing programs, and regulatory requests simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills – strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to comprehend legal and guideline documents, as well as regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory bodies.
- Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills with proficiency in compliance management systems and data analysis tools.
- Ability to multi-task with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
