About the Role

This position provides medical and rehabilitative care to patients, focusing on preventative, rehabilitative, and emergency care to help patients achieve optimal functioning. The role involves initial evaluations, coordinating treatment plans, monitoring progress, and making necessary referrals. The position may also involve working with high school students at their training facilities or on the field, adhering to school policies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial evaluation of patients, including obtaining medical history and performing physical examinations.
  • Presents evaluation findings and confers with attending physicians to determine treatment plans.
  • Coordinates treatment plan elements and monitors patient progress and adherence.
  • Ensures recommended equipment or therapies are obtained or carried out in a timely manner.
  • Provides routine medical care, such as minor dressing changes and suture or staple removal.
  • Provides health education and health maintenance services.
  • Responsible for triage and referral to appropriate sources for primary care patients presenting with new symptoms.
  • Maintains adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Assists with non-essential and non-clinical tasks to support departmental quality of care.
  • Develops plans for athletic training coverage at interscholastic athletic events.
  • Establishes and maintains a budget for athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Develops comprehensive venue and condition-specific emergency action plans.
  • Establishes working relationships with designated team physicians, community physicians, and school nursing staff.
  • Complies with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by school systems regulations and athletic training program policies.
  • Completes annual concussion training per state requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers OR must be eligible.
  • Athletic Training license or must be eligible to become licensed within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certified.
