About the Role

Perform rough carpentry functions on jobsites as assigned and directed. This role requires a strong understanding of construction documents, materials, and tools, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehend scopes of work per plans and specifications to complete job assignments.
  • Inventory supplies and provide restock orders to the Foreman.
  • Ensure trade employees, subcontractors, and vendors adhere to company standards, safety codes, regulations, and jobsite security.
  • Construct rough carpentry items, including walkways, structures, enclosures, railings, stairs, temporary doors/openings, and items for site safety.
  • Gather and transport materials, take measurements, cut, and install materials for rough carpentry assignments.
  • Measure and translate measurements into proper cuts and layout.
  • Identify and assess jobsite hazards and use carpentry skills to correct problems.
  • Display teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations.
  • Understand work instructions, project signage, and safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers.
  • Prepare and inspect tools prior to use to ensure they are in safe and working condition.
  • Participate in daily Pre-Task Plans and follow safety expectations for equipment and tool operation.
  • Select appropriate equipment for performing work and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Operate equipment including forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, compactors, and construction hoist.
  • Ensure security of equipment and work area during operations.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate problems and issues to the supervisor for immediate resolution.
  • Track production of completed tasks and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and other employees.
  • Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of rough carpentry experience required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of buildings or other structures, foundations, and framing.
  • Ability to understand and interpret construction contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, vendor tags, and project schedules.
  • Proficient use of related tools to complete work assignments.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply arithmetic and basic geometry to work tasks.
  • Ability to measure, read, and convey lengths with ruler or tape with high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong planning and analysis skills.
  • Able to think critically and use good judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal supervision, and in a team environment.
  • Ability to apply active listening skills, ask clarifying questions, and complete assignments as directed.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to travel using various modes and accommodate night and weekend work as needed.
  • Valid state Driver’s License to operate equipment and/or travel as needed.
