About the Role
The Patient Registration Clerk greets and registers patients, verifies patient information and insurance details, and communicates effectively to explain various forms. This role requires maintaining a professional and courteous manner towards patients and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Maintains patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Communicates effectively and can discuss personal information with patients or their representative.
- Maintains accurate daily schedules and navigates within the electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Obtains proper forms and information required by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies guidelines and requirements, or willingness and skills to learn.
- Enters all patient demographic and billing information accurately upon patient arrival.
- Verifies patient information is correctly entered into the EHR system when patient checks in.
- Assists patients to ensure all forms and paperwork are correctly filled out and entered into the system.
- Corrects insurance information, primary care physician, and any other patient information as needed.
- Accepts payments, issues receipts, and records all incoming cash.
- Collaborates with all departments to ensure high quality patient care and maximum 3rd party reimbursement.
- Helps patients locate the department and staff that they need.
- Upholds and promotes the value and integrity of the Seneca Nation Health System (SNHS)’s mission statement.
- Will promote SNHS in a positive manner.
- Provides care through a trauma-informed lens by incorporating key principles of both physical and psychological environment safety, trustworthiness and transparency, collaboration of decision-making during interactions, empowerment of patients by recognizing and building upon individual strengths, as well as recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultural backgrounds and sensitivity.
- Participates and completes all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
- Follows all policies and procedures of the department, SNHS, and Seneca Nation.
- Maintain a positive teamwork environment to ensure quality patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years of experience in patient or customer relations is required.
- Previous medical billing experience and a strong understanding of medical insurance guidelines and procedures is preferred.
- Experience working in a mental health facility, hospital, medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

- Ability to provide and recommend solutions to problems
- Public speaking and etiquette is required
- Computer proficient in data entry and spreadsheet applications is required
- Knowledge of electronic health record is preferred
Experience Level
- Minimum of two years of experience in patient or customer relations
