About the Role
Women's College Hospital (WCH) is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Psychologist to provide individualized psychological assessment and treatment for patients living with chronic pain. This role is part of the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI), a collaborative initiative aimed at improving the lives of those with chronic pain through innovation and clinical care advancements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate clinical records according to standards set by the College of Psychologists.
- Document assessment results, goals, treatment, and client progress.
- Participate in developing and implementing policies regarding patient care and professional practice.
- Provide individualized psychodiagnostic assessment for patients with chronic pain, including complex cases, trauma histories, emotional distress, and barriers to treatment.
- Develop individualized psychological formulations to inform treatment planning and interdisciplinary care.
- Provide individualized therapy for psychological conditions related to chronic pain using modalities such as CBT and ACT.
- Deliver care using a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach that supports safety, trust, collaboration, and individualized treatment planning.
- Assist the interprofessional team in identifying and addressing psychological barriers to treatment progress.
- Support patients with complex care needs requiring individual psychological treatment.
- Collaborate with the health care team and research initiatives as needed.
- Act as a role model and champion for safe, best practices in daily activities.
- Integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster safe and exemplary care.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Psychology required.
- Registered member in good standing, in the area of clinical psychology, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, required.
- A minimum of 5 years’ practice as a psychologist.
- Experience in health psychology or pain management preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of psychometric assessment, test interpretation, and psychological diagnosis.
- Advanced training in psychological intervention and treatment, including development of psychotherapeutic intervention, treatment protocols and program evaluation.
- Crisis intervention skills.
- Commitment to trauma-informed care and increasing access to mental health services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with facilitating groups and providing individual psychological treatment.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex and high-acuity mental health patients.
- Ability to make responsible decisions and willingness to consult with the interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to function within an inter-disciplinary environment.
- Proven attendance and punctuality.
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association and Women’s College Hospital.
- Plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety.
- Demonstrates principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
- Must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
