About the Role

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager assists the Director of Housekeeping in managing all aspects of the department, including public areas and laundry. This role maintains the highest standards of cleanliness in guestrooms and public areas, recommends and implements procedural changes, and manages the department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspection of all public areas, guestrooms, exterior of building and back house areas to ensure highest standards are met.
  • Monitor progress, ensure completion of deep cleaning program and assign tasks to housekeeping colleagues.
  • Supervise the housekeeping staff, providing open communication, training, coaching, counseling, and performance feedback.
  • Train, recommend performance evaluations, resolve issues, provide open communication, and recommend discipline or termination when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with accident/loss prevention programs, health/sanitation standards, and regulations.
  • Issue assignments to staff, reviewing special requests and areas of concentration.
  • Issue supplies/goods to staff at the beginning of the shift to control inventory and ensure proper supplies while controlling expenses.
  • Log items into the Lost and Found and answer inquiries.
  • Respond to guest questions and provide assistance, direction, and information as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by the Director of Housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Must be hospitality-oriented.
  • Must be able to work well in stressful and high-pressure situations.
  • Must be a team player and enjoy working on and with teams of people.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain relationships with team members and guests.
  • Excellent work ethic, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry or otherwise move materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to move throughout the building, bend, stoop, and reach to assist other team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Must be computer-literate in Word and Excel.
  • Must have knowledge of a hotel rooms management system (e.g., Alice, Opera Cloud, or other).
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Service-focused personality is essential.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Prior experience working with Opera or a related system.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts, actions, and opportunities clearly with strong networking skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, believe in a strong team culture, and set the scene for high performance.
