About the Role
This role supports the revenue accounting function through technical accounting, contract review, month-end close, and cross-functional process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in ASC 606, enjoys solving complex business problems, and is excited to partner across the organization to build scalable processes supporting a rapidly growing SaaS business.
Responsibilities
- Review customer contracts, order forms, amendments, renewals, and pricing structures to ensure revenue recognition complies with ASC 606.
- Evaluate non-standard contract terms and partner with Deal Desk, Sales, and Legal to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
- Analyze revenue implications of subscription, usage-based, and consumption-based pricing arrangements.
- Prepare and review revenue compliance checklists for customer transactions.
- Support monthly revenue close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, flux analysis, and management reporting.
- Perform detailed analyses of revenue, deferred revenue, and related balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Partner with Billing, Revenue Operations, Order Processing, Customer Success, and Deal Desk to ensure customer data flows accurately throughout the Order-to-Cash process.
- Support new product launches, pricing initiatives, and system enhancements by evaluating revenue accounting implications and partnering cross-functionally throughout implementation.
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue processes, strengthen internal controls, and leverage automation to increase scalability.
- Support enhancements to NetSuite, Salesforce, CPQ, and other revenue systems to improve operational efficiency and data integrity.
- Prepare audit support and assist with external audit requests, ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready.
- Support SOX readiness and public-company initiatives by maintaining strong documentation, controls, and accounting processes.
- Participate in special projects related to new business models, system implementations, acquisitions, and strategic finance initiatives.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience with a mix of public accounting and industry experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of ASC 606 and SaaS revenue recognition.
- Experience reviewing customer contracts, order forms, amendments, and renewals to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
- Experience supporting subscription and usage-based (consumption) pricing models within a SaaS environment strongly preferred.
- Experience working with NetSuite and Salesforce (SFDC); experience with Salesforce CPQ, billing platforms, or revenue automation tools is a plus.
- Experience partnering on system implementations or process improvements involving financial systems is preferred.
- Ability to partner effectively with Sales, Deal Desk, Billing, Revenue Operations, Legal, FP&A, and external auditors.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex transactions, identify risks, and recommend practical solutions.
- Demonstrates curiosity, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable analyzing large datasets using Excel and other reporting tools.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Big Four or regional public accounting experience preferred.
