About the Role
Act as a liaison among patients, family members, visitors, and staff in the Emergency Department to enhance the personal service experience and allow staff to focus on direct patient care. Monitor patient and visitor satisfaction in collaboration with the ED Director.
Responsibilities
- Engage with patients and visitors in waiting areas to explain policies and direct them to treatment areas.
- Conduct periodic rounds to relay information between patients, families, and ED staff.
- Explain updated visitation policies to patients and families.
- Address patient and visitor requests or issues through direct action or appropriate referrals.
- Collaborate with ED and registration staff to maintain patient flow and communication.
- Facilitate communication for patients, including calls to families or ministers.
- Conduct post-discharge calls to high-risk patients to prevent readmissions.
- Provide support to families experiencing the death of a loved one and coordinate with spiritual care.
- Provide diversional activities for children to maintain a safe environment.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital policies regarding registration, treatment, and facility services.
- Assist patients and families with transportation arrangements.
- Coordinate the procurement of wheelchairs and stretchers.
- Communicate with Environmental Services regarding department needs.
Requirements
- High School Graduate.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a customer service role interfacing with the public.
- Ability to exert up to 35 lbs of force.
- Comfort working in environments with exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
