About the Role

Ensure the quality of product is met in an efficient and safe manner, providing support to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all products meet customer and product requirements.
  • Maintain clean work areas and equipment according to SQF Standards.
  • Ensure proper wear of all practice equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is set up, calibrated, and functioning properly throughout the shift.
  • Keep all equipment used clean and prepared for the next run.
  • Perform Microbiological testing.
  • Perform checks to balance batches, including Brix, Salt, PH, Acid, and alcohol.
  • Use ingredient samples from bulk containers and perform testing.
  • Recommend adjustments to batches by adding or subtracting ingredients.
  • Monitor the Filler Machine and lines, checking weights, codes, labeling, and pasteurizer temperatures.
  • Verify codes closely, as ink can run dry and codes can be set incorrectly.
  • Perform visual checks and record results.
  • Weigh product on calibrated scales.
  • Obtain and bring samples to the QC bench for testing.
  • Perform tests and record results.
  • Place batches or finished products on hold as required.
  • Oversee all technicians and quality concerns.
  • Investigate supplier-related or customer-driven matters.
  • Fill in for technicians during absences.
  • Ensure departmental personnel coverage for production lines.
  • Conduct mock recalls per customer requirements.
  • Cross-check analysis for QA technicians.
  • Organize and review processes for continuous improvement.
  • Verify all holds are entered into Oracle.
  • Verify that all work orders pertaining to Quality Holds have been completed and distributed.
  • Create necessary work orders based on additional quality testing results.
  • Remove and/or adjust any Holds.
  • Participate in Kosher and regulatory audits.
  • Notify Suppliers and Vendors of any holds or FYI's created due to defective materials.
  • Ensure defective materials are removed in a timely manner.
  • Investigate Customer Complaints and complete paperwork to document findings.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including preparing and conducting employee performance appraisals.
  • Maintain employee work schedules, including timecard approval, work assignments, job rotation, training, vacations, and paid time off.
  • Report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ Years of quality experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • 2 years of previous supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work with numbers, perform calculations, and possess mechanical abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Communication skills – must work closely with all department and management levels.
  • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced work environment and record data in a timely manner.
  • Previous use of handcarts and pallet jacks.
  • Computer experience, including Oracle and Microsoft Office.

Skills

  • Ability to use Distiller, Microscope, Microbiological Plates, Refractometer, Salt Titrator, Acid Titrator, PH Meter, various gages, torque meters, and other off equipment as required.
