About the Role
Glens Falls Hospital is seeking a dedicated individual to join their comprehensive cancer care team. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth patient scheduling and coordination within the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, contributing to the hospital's mission of providing exceptional, affordable, and patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Schedule multiple appointments and exams appropriately.
- Ensure scheduled appointments complement complex treatment plans based on diagnosis, treatment regime, and required timing.
- Serve as a patient liaison and coordinator with physicians, clinical staff, and other departments for testing and scheduling.
- Enter physician time off into the schedule and coordinate patient scheduling around it.
- Ensure daily schedules and reports are available for physician and nursing staff.
- Receive referrals from external physician offices and determine appropriate physician assignment.
- Answer phones professionally and in a timely manner, projecting a positive image of the Cancer Center.
- Contact patients to reschedule appointments or exams as needed, prioritizing based on individual patient needs.
- Facilitate insurance verification and benefits.
- Identify and report scheduling problems to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with physicians to resolve scheduling conflicts and prevent delays.
- Monitor patient waiting areas for timeliness and patient issues, notifying nursing staff of any problems or delays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Healthcare Environment including medical scheduling experience.
- Computerized medical scheduling experience strongly preferred.
Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of some anatomy/physiology preferred.
- Excellent computer and phone skills.
- Problem solving/trouble shooting techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
