About the Role
This position focuses on accurately interpreting and manipulating artwork files, ensuring timely customer sign-offs on proofs. It involves adhering to print specifications for various platforms, supplying files to production, procuring tooling, and managing color using specialized prepress software.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate artwork file setup for Screen printing, Digital & Hybrid, including trapping, color correction, and variable data.
- Pre-flight files to assess usability and edit them using Adobe Creative Suite & ESKO software on Mac computers.
- Set up customer proofs according to specific printing specifications.
- Liaise with Production Manager or other departments for job-specific instructions.
- Handle customer-requested changes and file manipulation.
- Perform design tasks as needed.
- Set up final stepped files for all print platforms and output final files & proofs.
- Participate in regular press proofs, making artwork and color adjustments.
- Contribute to Press Fingerprinting and Color Profiling for all printing platforms.
- Prepare and coordinate tooling/screen files for ordering die cavities, hot stamps, flatbed screens, and films from external suppliers.
- Create purchase orders for outside vendors, supplying accurate tooling files and specifications.
- Participate in the quality assurance program within the Art Process.
- Ensure adherence to print specifications, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and implement new policies and procedures.
- Create, document, and maintain Art Department standard SOPs, WI's, and Forms.
- Participate in the Art Department KPI program.
- Ensure Art Department Computers, Software's, Printers, etc. are maintained to high standards, scheduling service checks and managing repairs.
- Consult with software vendors (Esko, HP, IT) for software issues.
- Uphold safety protocols and environmental regulations under OHSA.
- Conduct training sessions on safety practices and ensure team compliance.
- Collaborate with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Production Planning, Scheduling, and Production, sharing project timeline and material information.
- Participate in required graphics artist employee training.
- Provide support for special projects assigned by the Production Manager.
Requirements
- At least five years in the print and label industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to resolve issues effectively.
- Advanced understanding and use of Esko software (ver.22+) is an asset.
- Must understand and have experience in Screen Printing, Digital, and Hybrid printing.
- Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform with proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite software's), ArtPro.
- Knowledge of EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
- Effective communication skills to understand assigned work and request assistance.
- Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software.
- Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
- Analytical ability and creative problem-solving/troubleshooting skills are required.
- Workflow and Process Improvement considered an asset.
- Health and Safety must be an everyday mindset.
- Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs.
