About the Role
The Coordinator, Digital & Social Media will play a key role in shaping and delivering editorial and multimedia content across the Islanders’ website, mobile app, and social media. This position is responsible for writing, editing, producing, and publishing social and digital content that brings fans inside the game, the locker room, and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and publish editorial content including game recaps, player features, news stories, and community spotlights
- Collaborate with multiple departments and stakeholders to create, copy-edit, and publish social media content across the Islanders' official Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, and TikTok pages
- Create and publish social first content, including photography, videography, and short form video
- Research and present new social media trends, pop culture references and opportunities to create buzzworthy content on social media
- Assist with event and game coverage for Islanders social media and digital channels
- Upload and manage content across the team’s website and mobile app using NHL CMS tools, ensuring clean formatting, correct tagging, and proper placement on the website and app
- Write and optimize SEO-and-AEO-friendly headlines, subheads, and metadata for editorial content to maximize search visibility and discoverability on web and app
- Serve as an in-game editorial publisher, delivering real-time recaps, game story updates, and breaking news to the website and app during live game action and other Islanders events
- Maintain and coordinate the editorial calendar across the website and app, sequencing news, features, and long-form storytelling around the game and publishing schedule
- Maintain the social media content calendar and posting schedule to maximize the impact and timing of every post
- Execute community management across all social platforms, including monitoring fan sentiment, flagging ticketing/purchasing issues, and managing the Islanders' social inboxes
- Maintain a consistent voice and tone that reflects the Islanders brand, with an emphasis on storytelling and fan engagement, adhering to AP Style and the team’s editorial style guide
- Track and report on content performance across the website, app and social platforms to inform future strategy
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in digital media, editorial, social media or sports communications
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit sharp, engaging content under tight deadlines
- High proficiency in Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, other emerging platforms
- Ability to shoot and edit photography
- Experience working in CMS platforms and Adobe Suite including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects
- Working knowledge of basic HTML/CSS for formatting and troubleshooting web and app content within a CMS
- Strong writing, editing, and headline-writing abilities with a clear understanding of sports storytelling and familiarity with AP Style
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment
- Team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Passion for hockey and a deep understanding of the NHL landscape
- Comfortable working flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and game nights as needed
- Ability to work on-site at UBS Arena and the Islanders’ practice facility, and to travel locally as required
