About the Role

The Lead Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for diverse clients, including municipal, government, and private entities. Project types encompass water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipeline conveyance, heavy civil and structural projects, dams and hydro facilities, tunnel construction, and waterway and marine construction. This is a hybrid position based in one of our US Regional Offices.

Responsibilities

  • Retain primary accountability for estimate compliance for each project.
  • Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for estimates, including assigning crews and productivity for each discipline.
  • Review all scopes to ensure compliance with project documents.
  • Prepare cost estimates on proposals, projects, and studies, ensuring content is complete, accurate, and meets requirements.
  • Work with design teams to understand project complexity, size, and process systems.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to the design team in preparing estimates of varying scope and complexity.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and estimate timelines.
  • Coordinate with design, operation, and procurement teams on project status, requirements, and due dates.
  • Communicate with the estimating team on project stages, time limits, and required support.
  • Appraise overall accuracy of estimates and recommend contingencies.
  • Assist the Solution Team Leader with an independent assessment of an estimate's accuracy.
  • Ensure the orderly flow of project assignments within schedules and budgeted hours.
  • Direct, train, and develop subordinates or Junior Estimators.
  • Proactively support, encourage, and facilitate staff engagement in continuous improvement activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, review, verify, and analyze all aspects of estimates and estimate presentation.
  • Assist in planning and developing formal training programs to improve estimating techniques and capabilities.
  • Maintain familiarity with estimating and cost engineering developments outside the company and assess their significance.
  • Identify and assess improvement opportunities that add value.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other administrative, supervisory, and technical duties as assigned.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Company estimating database.

Requirements

  • 8 to 20 years of relevant experience, including some estimating experience.
  • Bidding experience.
  • Field and/or project experience.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
