About the Role

The Claims Adjuster, Property Insurance, contributes to Wawanesa's goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims experience by ensuring fair and equitable assessment of complex or major loss property claims. This role involves applying and explaining policy coverage and documenting claim files, ensuring prompt service from initial report to file closure.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and support members through the claims process with exceptional service and empathy.
  • Communicate proactively and in a timely manner via voice, digital, or written correspondence, ensuring all inquiries are handled efficiently, promptly, and professionally.
  • Assess claims involving complex or major loss property claims.
  • Review and interpret policy wordings, determine coverage, and communicate coverage decisions to members.
  • Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Ensure thorough investigation of all files to determine coverage and liability, adhering to Wawanesa's claims settlement guidelines, and knowing when to engage appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Coordinate and manage services with vendors and service providers, such as appraisers, independent adjusters, and contractors.
  • Negotiate and issue claim settlements within authority limits, communicating claim decisions promptly and effectively while providing an exceptional member experience.
  • Maintain an efficient and up-to-date diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrate and maintain excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverages while complying with regional regulatory and licensing requirements (where applicable).
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in reviewing repair quotes, developing narrative reports, and producing advanced estimate quotes using estimating software.
  • Support the CAT plan as required, including potentially assisting with claims outside of your functional area.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to show empathy and care for member satisfaction.
  • Two years of claims adjusting experience or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Hold or be pursuing the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and, where applicable, strive to meet licensing requirements.
  • Required experience using computer technologies such as Microsoft Office, email, web applications, and database software.
  • Ability to interpret and quantify property damage estimates.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment, with the ability to draw valid conclusions and communicate them effectively.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data entry.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Critical thinking and excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
