About the Role

Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet organizational objectives. This role coordinates the evaluation of system failures and resolutions, providing support to operations for unplanned maintenance. The position ensures transmission and distribution systems are designed to high quality standards for safe, reliable, and environmentally sound electric service. It shares accountability for the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan and supervises, assigns, prioritizes, and directs the work of other Engineers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews.
  • Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system, including reliability analysis, trending of system events, and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Responsible for the development, justification, and approval of Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of design and specification for additions, modifications, and replacements to transmission and distribution systems, including preparation of system electrical permits and customer notifications.
  • Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and necessary details.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas regarding system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
  • Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
  • Assists with storm duty and other major events.
  • Responds to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs, which may include assisting during an emergency outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop, present, and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Familiarity with power-related software is preferred.
