About the Role
As the VP, Container Engineering, you will lead the Containers team within LPL's Cloud Center of Excellence. You will own the strategy, architecture, and operations of the container platform, primarily Amazon EKS, while driving a self-service experience for application teams. This role requires a player-coach approach, balancing hands-on engineering with global team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Containers team in the Cloud Center of Excellence
- Define and execute the multi-year container strategy including cluster topology and GitOps integration
- Partner with FinOps to drive container cost efficiency and implement platform-level guardrails
- Drive platform stability and SRE practices including SLOs and capacity planning
- Deliver a self-service container experience using Terraform and Helm modules
- Co-own multi-account landing zone integration with cross-functional teams
- Evaluate and operationalize additional runtimes like ECS and OpenShift
- Embed agentic AI capabilities into engineering practices and developer workflows
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a globally distributed team across the US and India
- Perform all people-management duties including hiring, performance reviews, and career development
- Operate as a player-coach by contributing to Terraform code and design reviews
- Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations as a senior incident commander
- Collaborate with peer VPs to align roadmaps and remove cross-team blockers
- Champion AWS Well-Architected Framework adoption
- Curate and maintain the private Terraform module library
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and delivery planning
- Represent the pod in executive forums and communicate technical risk
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive technical experience
- 5+ years in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of hands-on production AWS experience in a multi-account landing zone
- 4+ years of authoring production Terraform in a private module ecosystem
- 1+ year of experience as a direct people manager or technical team lead
- 5+ years of experience leading and participating in 24x7 production on-call rotations
- 4+ years of operating Amazon EKS at scale in production
